Photographer And The Contract

Before hiring any professional, it is only common that people will enter into a written agreement with the professionals to avoid any unpleasant disputes in the future. You should read the terms and conditions carefully before hiring anybody. If any one refuses to sign the agreement looks for another who is ready to accept the terms. This contract will serve as a security for both sides.

The photographer, who shoots the wedding moments, is not an exception. Almost all wedding photographers will enter into a written contract with their clients. You must go through the terms and conditions carefully before signing anything. According to the international copy write law the photographer owns the negative rights to reproduce the photos. You must discuss this in advance with the photographer before hiring him/her. It is up to the photographer to accept or reject the request to sell you the negative and to determine additional cost for this privilege.

The contract must very clearly mention all mutual expectations and needs along with services to be rendered, fees, deposits and all related information.  Don’t ever think of a wedding photographer who does not believe in a contract. Both of you should realize the importance of a contract because it actually protect you and the photographer. Contracts eliminate squabbling and mysteriously fluctuating prices and give a collection point to all details. Your contract should contain all the ceremony details including the names of the wedding party members and the other vendors. The exact time of the start and end of the photography in the wedding should be clearly mentioned in the contract. If any special services like extra lighting, travel or assistants are required that also should be included. And also a contract ideally has the list of poses you want so that the photographer will not forget them inadvertently.

With an eagle’s eye examine price packages so that you can avoid unexpected extra charges. Confirm if the contract clearly defines what is included in the price and you should be well aware what you are getting in the end. Also discuss frankly cancellation, refunds of deposits and when payments are due. A well-defined contract helps both the photographer and the client to know the terms and conditions and assure a clear understanding of all relevant issues. Be careful enough not to sign anything you are not comfortable with and if needed take the contract form home to discuss the contents with your representatives.
