Important Questions To Ask

During the interview with your prospective photographer you might have a lot of interesting questions to ask him/her. But never forget to ask the most important questions before making your final decision.

First you get the Company Name of the photographer, Contact Name, Address, Telephone No, Email Address and Website Address.

If you meet the owner of the company the first question you should ask: Will you be the photographer of our wedding? If not, when can I meet the person whose work I am seeing now, so that I can know whether I will comfortable with him/her and also see if we are on the same route. If that photographer is no longer working in that studio, ask the owner his/her present studio or working place.

Your next questions include: Are you a full time wedding photographer and what do you do when you have no work as a photographer? What kind of experience, background and education have you got, received any formal training as a photographer and handled events of my type and size before?

Then you ask the photographer what are the reasons he/she thinks you should hire him/her and if this is the recent work that you are seeing and whether the photographer uses color, black and white or infrared film.

Since I am looking for a photojournalistic photographer I want to know your views on photojournalism. What will be your criteria for choosing when you photograph at my wedding and how do you know how many photos to take? Also enquire whether the photographer has ever been published in a journal or had a show. What differentiates his/her photographs from someone else’s? At what time will you arrive to set up your equipment?

Will you bring back up equipment to the event? And I would like to know your contingency plan, in case you get sick, stranded, arms or legs get broken etc and how many people will cover the event, Are you prepared to sign up a contract and guarantee and what are your policies regarding proofs, negatives and delivery times of the wedding photographs?

You ask the photographer how much he/she expects as a deposit and when is the deposit due. You also confirm if you can make a partial payment and when is the final payment due.

Next you must know whether gratuity is included in the price and if not what is the percentage of the service charges and what percentage are the taxes. Ensure whether there are any additional charges such as travel not mentioned. Last question is what the refund and cancellation terms are and the cost of package 1,2 and 3 are.
While you take leave of the photographer after the interview you ask a question to yourself whether the photographer has answered your personal vision.
