Important advantages Of The Digital Photography

The first and the foremost advantage is the ability to see the images right away. This is one of the photographer’s main reasons for using digital capture. It gives him/ her a level of comfort because he/she can see if the lighting, expression, exposure, etc. are correct immediately rather than waiting to see the film developed and get the prints back from the lab in a few days.

The digital has the ability to change the ISO, the equivalent of film speed on the fly. By this the photographer is able to go in and out of a myriad of lighting situations without any botheration of suddenly changing the film to match the light levels from place to place at a wedding site.

A photographer can capture virtually any number of photographs at an event and this facility could be described as the boon and the bane of the photographers¹ existence, though, because if you shoot them, you have got to edit them. But the photographer enjoys the freedom from the torture of thinking that he/she can only take 10, 12 or whatever number of rolls of film at this event so that it could be kept within budget.

Another advantage is the ability to make black and white and sepia toned photographs from the digital camera. When one shoots digitally (unless they are captured in a black and white only mode on the Fuji S2) every photograph can become a black and white and/or sepia image. Parents may insist an image in color while the couple’s desire might be to have it in black and white. In most photo editing software programs, there is often an easy way to convert an RGB image to a ‘grayscale’ or B&W image. Most programs have a formula where the software takes proportions of each of the three channels and mixes the tones to give a final grayscale or B&W image.

Digital workflow also is a merit of digital photography. Many photographers now offer a new type of album known as a magazine style or flush mounted album. Images shot on film would have to be scanned in order to produce this type of album. While it can be done totally, it adds time and another step in the process. Digital capture eliminates the scanning and often the time-spent dust spotting the scan made from negatives. But certain talented wedding photographers who prefer film have successfully created digital workflows without using digital capture

Lastly the digital photographer has got the freedom to experiment with the images. You can often shoot images that you would not even try with film. You know you will be able to erase it if it does not work to your satisfaction and modify it because you are seeing the results immediately.

In spite of the entire buzz about film vs. digital what it matters when selecting a photographer are the images and personality. It is very important you like the feel and the style of the images that the photographer shows. You must know if you trust him/her and if the photographer exudes confidence about the work they do and the tools they use.
