The definition of good pictures varies from person to person. The wedding photos play a permanent role in your life because every time you go through them they please you. There are technical considerations also that you have to understand. When you research you will come to know about medium format-versus 35mm versus digital and each photographer will have an opinion about why one is better than the other with all having their strong points too. No doubt, digital photography will defeat film because the equipment, already having surprisingly high quality, improves at a very high rate. Every year the technology makes quantum leaps in picture quality and efficiency as equipment prices come down.

Canon and Nikon are the most popular digital cameras with full lines of high quality, 35mm SLR camera bodies or cameras that take the existing lines of interchangeable lenses.

Evaluation of a digital picture does not end with what comes out of the camera. Of course digital photography has lowered the bar for fresher or the first to enter the photography. But every image comes out of a digital camera needs benefits from adjustments in Photoshop; some images need plenty, some a little, but it is an art and science to produce a high quality digital image. The visible signs of low quality digital pictures are off colors (too orange- too blue), flat light, little shadow and little high light detail.  All the pictures enter the digital chip in color, but the conversion process from color to B&W in Photoshop is as difficult, if not more, than printing B&W photos in a dark room. The visible signs of B&W conversions are virtually the same as those in color, including colorcasts. Anyhow it could be guaranteed that it is not very easy to differentiate between a well-developed digital print and a film print.

Ink jet print and papers are still relatively new in spite of the plethora of research and claims about ink lasting long. Yet, nobody is in a position to tell how present ink jet prints will hold up over time. There are certain exceptions any how- while it is not advisable to put any ink jet color prints into an $800 wedding album, it is recommended accepting B&W prints from high quality Epson printers on archival papers.

If your digital wedding photographer will make the finished wedding prints ask for RC paper color prints. The high quality album manufacturers are reluctant to work with ink jet prints. That is the simple reason you should insist your photographer to use the traditional photochemical paper. Any glue that gets on your image in the mounting process, generally takes the ink out of the paper when wiped off. This leads the photographer to reprint and mail an extra image. In the end you will have to pay for this extra time and hassle. Most professional labs accept digital files and a digital photographer who does not experiment with new techniques.
