Destination Wedding Photography Kit

You have to take certain items connected with photography along with you when you accept the job of destination wedding photography.  If you want to keep update with the website and dump pictures and videos as you go, you have to take your laptop and to film the wedding entertainment as well as parts of the ceremony for the slideshow you have to take along video camera and accessories. Here is the list of items for photography you have to take along with you to the foreign country.

1- 2 camera bodies - Always have a back up camera. Think about taking a good high end point and shoot too.

2- 5 Lenses, just to cover all bases/damage etc if you want you can cover all angles and situations; not just for the wedding but stock photography also.

3- 2 Speedlights, one as back up or use with second camera

4-Video camera, lens, lights, mics etc. - To film entertainment and make short video clips of the country/area for stock footage in the spare time

5-Camera batteries, spare batteries and chargers

6-7 packs of rechargeable speedlight batteries plus 3 chargers) and 5 standard packs as back up

7-9 memory cards for the cameras totaling 30 Gigabytes

8-Accessories such as speedlight diffusers, cables, cleaning equipment and of course a tripod - The tripod is very necessary for both video work and night shots of the wedding and grounds.

You have to pay an excess charge each way for extra luggage and for overweight. Instead, if you buy an extra seat on the plane, it would give you extra luggage allowance. As this seems to be cheaper, you check with the airline if you can do this before flying. Weigh your gear before you leave and ensure you have the extra cost covered as part of your package.

Make sure you land in your destination with plenty of time to roam around and get to know the area. There is nothing worse than getting lost on the wedding. It is very unprofessional. Early arrival also gives you time to visit the venues, meet the owners and staff and make it clear what you will be doing or what you need on the day.  The idea of meeting with the couple at least once or twice before the wedding to ease their stress and get to know you well will do wonders. Since this is a costly, significant business, act too professionally.

The weather of the venue is a very crucial factor for a wedding photographer. Remember to check the weather of the wedding locality and plan accordingly for any events. Equally important is finding out a good travel insurance for the duration of your trip and upgrade to the premium service. Finally prepare a timetable for the whole trip and all events. Be careful to add at least one hour to the beginning of each section to account for bad traffic and other unavoidable circumstances.

You will get a lot of fun and excitement while shooting destination wedding photography. You can see bits of the world you had not seen otherwise before.
