If you approach a photo studio to hire a photographer for your wedding shots you ask certain questions to clarify your doubts.

The first question is, “How many photographs you have in your studio”.

You must know that some photo studios hire outside photographers usually known as shooters. When there is more than one photographer to get the main photographer he will charge an extra booking fee. The main photographer might also be the owner of the business. If you have a special liking for the work of a particular studio does not hesitate to book them even if they hire shooters. If the main photographer has another work get some sample works of the photographer who will shoot your wedding moments and study them carefully to ascertain whether the photographer’s work exhibits the style and look that you need.

Is there any guarantee that you will be the photographer who will shoot our wedding day?

If the studio you select has several photographers, avoid assuming that the owner of the business will be photographing your wedding. This is a very common mistake amongst clients booking studios. This is a serious misunderstanding that can often lead to disappointment. You may not have met this photographer before and may not even feel comfortable with him/her. They also may not know what you want and what your likes and dislikes are. Above all, when you see your photos, they may not be what you wanted at all. Another important question to ask any potential photographer is how many weddings he has photographed and/or how many years he has been photographing weddings.

Never get impressed only by seeing the photographer’s sample work because most of them will show you only the best they have taken. See a whole wedding that the photographer has done, either from proofs or on the computer. Remember, experience does matter a lot and should not be underestimated especially if you are after a certain look to your photos. Photographers spend many years developing their skills by attending seminars and workshops and invest in the latest computer software to provide you with the latest trends in wedding photography. Photographers who have had only a few years in the industry may lack the photographic tricks that more experienced professionals know. It is also possible that a photographer who has less years of experience on wedding day will be still experimenting with new things.

The next question is to confirm whether all the work you are viewing are the photographer’s or a combined work of more than one photographer.

This will apply only to studios that hire shooters. Photographers who work from home generally are the only photographer that business has, but there are a few home studios that hire shooters to photograph weddings, most of them are perfectly fine, though. So make sure you see the work of the photographer who will be shooting your wedding.
